Xu Cao 曹旭

Hi there! I am a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor (特任助教) in Computer Vision Lab. at Osaka University.

I received my Ph.D. (Apr. 2019 - Mar. 2022) from Osaka University under the supervision of Prof. Yasuyuki Matsushita. Before that, I received M.S. from Nagoya University in Mar. 2019 and B.S. from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) in Jun. 2016.

My research interest includes 3D/physics-based vision but excludes deep learning applications. I am working on and looking for collaboration on (multiview) surface reconstruction using (neural) implicit representations. Feel free to email me if you are interested in working with me.

Bilateral Normal Integration
Xu Cao, Hiroaki Santo, Boxin Shi, Fumio Okura, Yasuyuki Matsushita
ECCV, 2022
PDF  |  code

Discontinuity preserving surface reconstruction from a single normal map, which works in orthographic and perspective cases, is robust to outliers, and only has one hyperparameter.

Normal Integration via Inverse Plane Fitting with Minimum Point-to-Plane Distance
Xu Cao, Boxin Shi, Fumio Okura, Yasuyuki Matsushita
CVPR, 2021
PDF  |  video  |  code

Plane fitting is useful for normal estimation; plane fitting is now useful for normal integration.
